About The Event
Twelfth Night: Stitched is geared towards honouring the legacy and contributions of William Shakespeare and presenting his life-affirming and timeless artwork in an innovative, renewed and appealing way to students. The matinee performance and workshop will focus on costuming, lighting, sound, speech acts: dialogues, soliloquies, asides and monologues and will allow students the opportunity to understand the directing decisions made and become directors themselves. This experience is available for all Forms Two (2) to Six (6) students, locally, especially students who are in preparation for their CSEC and CAPE examinations. Â These students usually crave an impactful theatrical experience that will revolutionise their understanding of the prescribed texts taught and read in the classroom, just before writing their examinations.
Thus, this workshop will:
- expose all students to the prestigious Shakespearean art form, culture, language and society;
- expose students to the timeless themes of Shakespeare’s plays;
- deepen students’ understanding of the plot, characterization and design conventions (lighting, costume, entrances and exits, sound, etc) of  Twelfth Night;
- enhance students’ appreciation for the art form; as it’s important to raise a generation that understands, values, and supports theater’s place in society; and
- renew student’s motivation to pursue English Literature at CSEC & CAPE levels.
